To Use Generative AI or Not to Use it?

Event Description:

Join the AI Debate is a new webinar series hosted on last Tuesdays at 2p ET by WAIE+ where Hessie Jones and Mia Shah-Dand invite experts to discuss and debate critical topics  in AI. By examining these issues from multiple perspectives, we help our audience get a fully informed view on issues that matter to 99% of humanity. This month, we will tackle the  raging debate over whether to use Generative AI or not to use it.

The popularity of Generative AI tools like ChatGPT have raised many ethical questions  ranging from the lack of consent for artists’ creations used in LLM training datasets to AI fueled plagiarism in classrooms. Artists have written open letters and testified in front of  U.S. Congressional Committees demanding a stop to the unauthorized use of their work.  Educators have also joined this fight by resisting the use of AI tools in classrooms and  educational settings.

On the other hand, there are some who believe Generative AI can be used for good such as  helping disabled folks access opportunities and empower those without coding skills to  build technology products. Some content creators, writers, and artists also use Generative  AI as an aid to get over the “blank page” syndrome and to boost their creativity.

Join us on Tuesday, August 26 at 2p ET as experts Beatriz González Mellídez and Bhaskar  Mitra make the case for whether Generative AI is an opportunity or risk from the  perspective of educators, content creators, software developers, and disability advocates.
